Opening day is less than two weeks and Ruben Tejada is still expected to be the starting shortstop. I wrote projections of 12 players on my blog metsonmymind.wordpress.com in January and adjusted to reflect the current state of the Mets. I narrowed the list to five players.

The battle for first baseman Ike Davis and Lucas between Duda was supposed to be controversial. Davis and Duda only had a combined 13 spring training at-bats due to nagging injuries.

Mobile furniture Valley fever mishaps, pain continues for them. Their preparation for the opening day to be determined. (I do not understand their projections because their roles are not certain, but I presented in my original list).

Competition is strongest between Juan Lagares or Eric Young Jr. to third place outfield. Lagares hit higher average; get on base more and better playing defense Young Jr. Director Terry Collins still has faith that young people can be a lead-off hitter prototype.

Some believe Curtis Granderson will be another Jason Bay while others are optimistic about the three -time All- Star.

Many players of the team have not played a full season in the majors from 2014. David Wright has thrived throughout his career, but the prediction performance based on a small sample size is difficult.

Minor league statistics should be taken with a grain of salt. Many fans argue that spring training has no importance, but the players are discussed and praised their game in March.

As if the uncertainty shortstop and first base is not enough of a puzzle for the Mets, Opening Day starter Jonathon Niese had planned two MRIs in the last month.

Here forecasts Young, Lagares , Granderson , Niese and Tejada for the 2014 season. They are based on the 2013 season and look at past performance MLB.
