Mets appear to be out on A.J. Pollock in telling Wilson Ramos answer

19 Dec

New York Mets

The Mets feel they got the righty bat they required, and he’s not an outfielder.

As they presented Wilson Ramos as their new catcher at Citi Field on Tuesday, Mets general administrator Brodie Van Wagenen limited the likelihood of including another outfield bat. The Mets had been firmly connected with free specialist A.J. Pollock, who has been a slight star in Arizona since 2012.

“We will be utilizing our assets productively, yet we likewise need to take a gander at where our needs are,” Van Wagenen said. “Prior to this marking, a right-gave, center of-the request bat was genuine imperative to give us balance. Since we have it, that may not be the No. 1 need.”

At the point when a right-gave hitting outfielder was proposed once more, Van Wagenen reminded that Yoenis Cespedes would return sooner or later this season.

Ramos, whom the Mets marked to a two-year, $19 million manage a group choice for a third season, cut .306/.358/.487 with 15 homers last season.

Pollock, a one-time All-Star who has been an installation on the debilitated rundown, batted .257 with 21 grand slams and 13 takes in 113 diversions last season.

Hamill: Even Mets Fans Can Agree, Derek Jeter Was A Player Worthy Of Admiration — Particularly For His Taste In Women

25 Sep

You do not have to be a Yankee fan to be a fan of Derek Jeter. We will miss him as a fixture in New York and someone that children can safely model themselves after.

New York Yankees Derek Jeter player holds the World Series trophy with teammates AJ Burnett (from left), Jorge Posada, Mariano Rivera and Robinson Cano in 2009.

Even Mets fans will miss Derek Jeter.

You do not have to root for the Yankees to admit that the most consistent baseball player to grace the stages and streets of the city of New York in the past two decades has worn No. 2 for the Yankees new York.

I’m not a Yankees fan. But I’m proud to say I’m a fan Jeter. I am happy that I got to see the game icon baseball history, especially when I saw my grandson, that the roots of the Yankees.

I was batting and Hitting Bayside in Queens on Monday when Jeter’s face on the TV along with the countdown to his last game at Yankee Stadium on Thursday. I thought of the Bayside Little League coach Jerry Costa, who said last week: “. I’m a Mets fan, but we’re sure going to lose to Derek Jeter in this city”

He was so right it hurts.

At a time when professional athletes are prohibited by the despicable behavior off the field, I will always remember that Jeter allow you to root for him with his children as an athlete and as a man.

John Smith, coach assistant baseball Queens College, looked at Jeter on the screen and said, “I’ve been a Mets fan since birth But you have to respect Jeter way he played the game and the way he moved. off the court. it is one of the latest models for our young players. Even bought a ‘Jeter Respect’ T-shirt. he does everything with class, her charity work for commercials damn television. No steroids. No no scandals. Five championship rings. He is the man. ”

Woody Allen, who has love for both baseball teams in New York, admires Jeter play on and off the field.

“I root for both the Mets and Yankees, as we are in different leagues,” Allen said. “When you have faced in recent years I have rooted for the Yankees, as they have much more exciting on the field consistently and deserve support equipment. Much as I admire Jeter as a great player, I admire his taste for more women. ”

Fans say over Derek Jeter at Yankee Stadium on Wednesday.

Do not we all?

Nacinovich Vic, who led a dozen Little League and Catholic Youth Organization teams, said: “I suffer every season as a Mets fan, but at this time of thugs and ‘I hate the Yankees,” I would be willing to Derek Jeter give one standing ovation. ”

His wife, Liz, added, “Although I am a Mets fan for life, was a pleasure to watch play Derek Jeter. He has always been a role model for my three children, not just in the way he played match with strength and confidence, but also the way he conducted himself off the field. ”

More in Brooklyn, where the children of the supporters of the Brooklyn Dodgers were forced to grow encouraging Mets, one of the old days Bensonhurst Downtown Ronnie Califano guy like Jeter will be lost as the quintessential New Yorker.

Farmington Ready To Be New Kids On The Block

28 Aug

FARMINGTON (KFSM) – are rookies in the 5A-West this year, but the Farmington Cardinals have had success in the past and are ready for change.

“It’s kind of a mystery,” Mike Adams said Farmington head coach. “We’ve seen a movie on these guys, but again these are new teams this year. It’s exciting for us. It’s a new challenge. We are against teams that are going to be a little bigger than us numbers wise, and you probably know a little more athletic. But we have a plan for it, and we know our guys are working for the plan. ”
new-kids-on-the-block-27916

Farmington can be the smallest school in their conference, but despite lacking numbers, say they do so in other areas.

“Actually, do not worry about that. Our guys around here, most of them can play. So, we’re just ready to go,” Josh Blew, Farmington High said.

“We have a lot of experience. A lot of us have been playing for two years. We will do that, and we’ll go out and play,” Morgan Lewis, Farmington High said.

They plan to bring a different look at what these teams are accustomed.

“We want to be a physical football team,” Adams said. “We are a bit of a setback. We run most two things back, and we want to pound the football and run it. Most teams in this league are more delicately spread, where they are going to spread you and throw the ball a lot.’ll throw, we have a great group of receivers, but will establish a career and be physical. “

New York Mets’ David Wright Must Swallow His Pride This Time Around

27 Aug

No one will doubt the tenacity of Captain New York Mets David Wright, but it is now apparent that he is suffering. He has been dealing with a shoulder injury since just before the break for the All-Star and now it appears to be a neck injury. His game has certainly been affected by those injured; their numbers are nowhere near where they should be.

Wright remained in the lineup because he is a player and no one will ask if he had to waste time to get it right. He is the face of a young team that is trying to be an example for the young guys. At this time the Mets are way out of the playoff race and are not helping yourself or your team to be there. He has not played a hand since the All-Stars, and not because he lost it or something, is clearly due to the fact that he is playing injured.
New-York-Mets

Since the All-Star is batting .215 Wright no homers and eight RBIs. This guy is a first class player in this league talent just does not go away; I’m not making an excuse for him, as it is just a fact that he is injured. He can hide all you want, but he is hurt, I know and so does everyone else who follows this team. This is not the David Wright we all know.

I congratulate Wright to strike out for this long but there comes a time when enough is enough. He is not better to continue playing through the injury; so the best thing for him to do is sitting a couple of weeks and do well. The Mets have too much invested in Wright and you really cannot afford to risk the most injuries at this point.

I would totally understand if the Mets were fighting for a playoff spot and Wright was playing through injury. That’s not the case here, so Wright has to swallow his pride and take a seat for a while. It really would not be the worst thing in the world for him at this time. If anything it would benefit only because it has fought hard in the second half of the season.

In the future, I think it’s only a matter of time before Wright opens up and tells everyone that he is in fact playing hurt. He is too good of a ball player who plays bad right now and the injury has everything to do with it. No Mets fan should be disappointed if ultimately not fall because it would be better for both David Wright and the Mets.

Series Preview: New York Mets vs. Pittsburgh Pirates

27 Jun

After just two games in Queens, the Mets hit the road to try to end June on a good note.

What’s up with the Pirates?
Cincinnati Reds v Pittsburgh Pirates

These Buccos fought the last time the Mets saw them, which was almost a month ago. Since losing two of three in New York and falling 23-29, but the Pirates have righted the ship (yar!) something. They have beaten up on some weak opponents lately to bring their record back to .500 at 39-39.

It has changed enough for the Pirates to be considered a competitor? Well, great prospect Gregory Polanco called him and has looked very good in his first 15 games. The reception is so fond of the girl who is already trying to negotiate a contract extension in the long term, and some scouts think Polanco has a potential superstar.

Now, with a talented and athletic fielder Polanco starring alongside Andrew McCutchen cadidate MVP and the fast-but-strikeout prone Starling Marte, the Pirates got rid of Jose Tabata from the list of 40 players. Still, the return of second baseman Neil Walker of the DL means that the manager Clint Hurdle should find ways to keep Josh Harrison in the lineup. The surprisingly productive Harrison can play second base as well as the gardens, but the colon is filled now with the return of Walker.

Would be nice if Harrison could play shortstop because Pittsburgh is getting little production from that position, and first baseman Ike Davis has slipped a bit since his hot start with the team. When that third baseman Pedro Alvarez just hitting enough home runs to offset their strkeouts, adds crime problems will get to meet a mediocre rotation and a bullpen that has seen Jason Grilli off a cliff.
Who are these guys?

Can you say I’m not too high on the Pirates? Probably started when I looked at the roster of the playoffs last season and thought, “You know, not that much more talented than the Mets.” That was intended to be by Amazins optimism, but now that both teams are bad, the pessimism of Pittsburgh.

A type that is difficult to generate pessimism is Polanco, showing the rare combination of athleticism and ability to control the strike zone. Last season at Double-A Altoona issued 36 walks and 36 strikeouts in 286 at-bats. Polanco did not hit for much average or power in 2013,

but it sure did this year at Triple-A Indianapolis. A line of .347/.405/.540 with 24 walks and 44 strikeouts in 274 plate appearances decided to call Polanco easy. The 22-year-old out of the Dominican Republic has the potential to become a similar player McCutchen can bring excitement to Pittsburgh in the coming years.

Russell Martin has a name that is familiar to baseball fans, but may not be as appreciated as it should be. After being a star player on offense and defense through his first three seasons with the Dodgers, Martin has fallen into the category of “good intangibles” of the backups can be used, but the statistics show that he is still a valuable lot on the plate and behind it.

Last season, a 0.222 BABIP did Martin A replacement level player on offense, but their defense ranked so high FanGraphs he was worth 4.1 FWAR. He is not as good on defense in 2014, but 0.327 BABIP and a rate of 14.9 percent career walk with him a surprisingly valuable bat in the lineup in Pittsburgh have.

Mets Release Jose Valverde, Fire Hitting Coach Dave Hudgens Who Rips Fans On Way Out

27 May

Valverde gave up four runs and four hits in eight innings and ninth, losing a great start by rookie Jacob deGrom . Hitting Coach Dave Hudgens was also fired by the Mets.

01

Jose Valverde let slip a Mets away in two thirds of an inning.

Only the Mets could add clutter to a day reliever trying to close the game for them is booed off the mound.

But just minutes after Jose Valverde blew defeat Mets 5-3 to Pirates on Monday at Citi Field, the Mets released veteran. Then GM Sandy Alderson said the Mets had fired their hitting coach, Dave Hudgens, too.

Loss and reorganization of two points were a dramatic change in how things were before. Rookie Jacob deGrom made another great start, going 6.2 shutout innings , and the Mets took a two-run lead in the eighth inning before falling to 7-17 May.

Hudgens, hitting coach since 2011, will be replaced by former major league Lamar Johnson, who was coordinator of minor league hitting Mets. Vic Black was called to take the place of Valverde in the bullpen.

Moreover tumult comes? Alderson said no, noting that cooking Hudgens ” is in response to a specific and nothing should be read into it by any means situation.”

However, only the question was nervous Terry Collins. Was this a warning to the manager?

“Well, everyone could be next,” Collins said. “It’s part of the game. Let me tell you something, when you are tested, you know where to start? On the mirror. That’s where it starts. , You know what type of work you do and if it fails, it does not work.”

02

Another strong outing deGrom Jacob goes to waste as the Mets ruin a two-run lead and fall to the Pirates.

Collins voice rose as he spoke, but cooled. “(Stuff) happens. You deal with it. And if you cannot, you do not belong in the game.”

Hudgens had a chance for fans met on the way out, “I think fans are too hard on the kids at home how can booing Curtis Granderson have no idea how difficult this type works and how it will be doing his business, doing his job. He gets off to a slow start and we are booing? Come. ”

Offensive philosophy Mets ‘ game strikes ” will not change, Alderson said. But maybe fresh eyes help, both Collins and Alderson said.

“Certainly we are not happy with it, but we all realize when we get into this game that kind of things happen,” Collins said. “It’s not for lack of work or lack of preparation. It’s just that sometimes you make change for change, try to change things. This is not at all because of Dave Hudgens. Absolutely not. ”

David Wright and Daniel Murphy said the batsmen must take much of the blame, too. The Mets are not a good offensive team, especially at Citi Field.

“When you fight the way we struggled offensively, finger, obviously, it was noted,” Wright said. “A lot of times the finger is pointed rather unfair. We as players are not the only ones there to get the job done. Hudge be the first to say that much of that responsibility falls on him, when the truth of the matter is, which falls mostly on us. ”

03

Jose Tabata (r.) And Pirates played 2-0 down to beat the Mets, 5-3.

Murphy said he was frustrated when he heard the news. “Frustration with the way we’re playing, the way the offense is going and Dave ends up taking the brunt of it,” Murphy said. “Not a good situation. Stinks. I wish they were 15 games over .500 at this time and would not have to worry about this.

“But we are not and that is the decision of the organization did.”

The Mets were 1-for -8 with runners in scoring position Monday and is 13 – of -66 ( .197 ) in such situations in their current start position and Alderson spoke specifically about how they were not driving in careers. The Mets entered Monday 13th in the majors in batting average with RISP (0.246) and the 16 -base plus slugging (OPS) with RISP (0.696).

There are 23 runs scored, 28 homers, 28 OPS and 25 in batting average. Only four teams have scored fewer runs home of the Mets at Citi Field 83.

Hudgens, 57, told the Daily News he was “surprised” by the decision. “Obviously, someone did not think he was getting better,” he said. “They made the decision and live with it. But I enjoyed the opportunity.

“These things happen in baseball. Has cost us. Sorry, we were able to work through it completely. They did not give me the opportunity to work through it.”

‘Sports Comment Of The Day:’ New York Mets Fan Happy With Subway Series Split

mtes fans

Therefore, the New York Mets and New York Yankees Subway Series 2014 split last week with Amazins sweeping the Yankees at Yankee Stadium, only to see the Yankees to return the favor at Citi Field.

The Mets swept the Yankees in the series four games last year , and this year the series started very well for Amazins as he won the first two games , scoring 21 runs at Yankee Stadium during 9-7 and 12 – 7 wins .

But another sweep was not in the books as the Japanese sensation Masahiro Tanaka ended Slide six games the Yankees to the Mets with a complete game, 4-0 victory Wednesday night. The Yankees pitching even better three different pitchers in Thursday’s 1-0 victory that left the Met hitters swinging in the air and shaking his head.

If you’re a Met fan, like me, you’re probably happy for the division. Yankees fans are probably a little less enthusiastic, but they have to be met, especially the way the series started four games for them.

Dicky Priest is one of those Met fans who are happy with the division, and his words are Monday’s “Sports Comment of the day.”

Dicky Priest said: “As a Mets fan all my life, I ‘m happy with a division of the Subway Series – in general, have not seen that many times the games are usually all explosions!”

Hey Met fans and Yankees fans, how do you feel the same about the division of the Subway Series? Sound off by leaving a comment below!

Palladino: Hey, Chowderheads! Be REAL Mets Fans And Come To Citi Field!

9 May

Attention all you semi – loyal, on the wall, weak Mets fans. Only 12 days left to get tickets for 14 to May 15 with the Yankees Subway Series at Citi Field.
neyyork

Of course, you probably did not know what was going on because, well, you’ve been living under a rock. But here in Central Mets let you out of the darkness and into the glory that is our 2014 team.

We scrapped and scraped and pitched the way to a 15-12 record , while you sat on your hands in a friendly and welcoming room that you cannot hear.

Panned METS LETTER ASKING ‘ TRUE SUPPORTERS Yorkers to promise

That’s exactly why we had Cleon Jones, Jerry Koosman, Ed Charles, Keith Hernandez, Ron Darling and Doc Gooden give that little letter that has become known as “The Charter of loyalty.”

We need you out at Citi Field, cheering their hearts and spending your , er , encouraging their hoarse voices as gang Terry Collins ‘ has the same opportunity to win a championship as the undersigned made in 1969 and 1986.

You see, all you chowderheads, is not what happens on the field that counts. It is what happens in the stands. No noise equals any wins. God knows we do not know how we got here playing a half and three quarters of the houses.

We cannot understand how you can stay home boobies while our second alignment is erasing people with that .220 batting average. Maybe you’re thinking those big, bad media people erroneously indicate that the average of our team is ranked 28th in the league, and our 17 homers rank 27th.

Maybe you believe all the nonsense about doing all this through the rotation, given his youth in general, it could collapse at any time.

You know the saying: “There are three kinds of lies: lays, damned lies and statistics.”

Well here is a statistic to his boys. THREE! Three games over .500. We are sailing here and we will send the good ship looking right through the barrier of 90 victories Sandy Alderson. But darned if we’re going to do that with a home field empty.

We need their wallets, er, voices. There are plenty of restaurants in our outfield pavilion ready to keep you guys stoked and filled with his … overpri, affordable price, by the way, is healthy for the heart.

Remember that the more Shake Shack burgers you eat, the more loyal they sound.

We should not have to tell you this. Heaven knows, are not sending these letters out in Toronto, where they have the best fans in the world. They are not doing this in Wrigleyville or Fenway.

And guess what? The postal van is not exactly supporting herself at Yankee Stadium, either. Those are the fans! They are mad because they have a playoff team to root or not.

Heck, two-fifths of their rotation even comes from the Western Hemisphere. But they are there, loyal as ever. Pinstripes flags. Everywhere you look, you’d think averaged a World Series win one in four years.

Nope. Just us. Because you are not loyal enough, we had to drag Hernandez and Darling off the television booth to sign this thing. That was not an easy task.

Real New Yorkers know what they are talking about. They are presented in subzero temperatures. We like them. Guys, not so much.

But you still have the opportunity to return to our good graces. Sign this letter. Then, just before the Yankees hit Citi Field, will run his fingers through the list of names and pick one to deliver this little missive to the team.

You can get to shake hands with Josh Satin, if not in the starting lineup, and Ruben Tejada. We can make it happen for you.

But you have signal. And you have to leave. Fred Wilpon needs a new pair of shoes. Make that happen for him.

And make it happen for us. Be loyal. Be cool.

Be a fan.

See you on the other side of 90 victories.

Sincerely,
Mets management

Mets Vs. Phillies Recap: Hamels Falls To Mets Once Again

30 Apr

It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia. On a rainy night at Citizens Bank Park, Cole Hamels Mets handled easily beat the Phillies, and improved to 15-11 on the season. It is the first time there have been four games above .500 since the mid 2012 season.
